What is in it

Seven sections, every one about your role in your city.

  1. 01

    The market right now

How many people hold this title in your region, who is hiring them this month, how long the open roles are staying open.

  2. 02

    What they are paid

Salary or contract rate ranges from public sources, what moves a candidate off a good seat, and where your number sits.

  3. 03

    Where the people are

The companies, sectors and nearby cities that produce this role, and who is reachable with the right approach.

  4. 04

    The screen

The five questions that separate the people who have done the job from the people who have held the title.

  5. 05

    The offer

What wins in this market, what loses, and the counter-offer risk at each level.

  6. 06

    The search plan

A week-by-week plan, contingent or retained, with a realistic time to fill for this role in this city.

  7. 07

    What to do this week

Three things to do before the first interview, whether or not you work with us.

The brief is how we show you how we think. Some people use it to hire on their own. Some ask us to run the search. Both are fine.

A sample

Sample: hiring a Production Supervisor in Hamilton, Ontario

A brief for a permanent, second-shift production supervisor at a food manufacturer in Hamilton, 40 people on the line, needed within 30 days. The first two sections are below. Every figure links to its source.

Written 19 October 2026. Public figures as of that date; your brief uses the current ones.

The market right now

Hamilton has steady demand for food-plant supervisors, not a rush. The people you want are mostly employed.

  • Indeed lists 23 Production Supervisor postings in Hamilton (Indeed). That count covers all industries, so food is a minority of it.
  • Job Bank shows 3 food and beverage processing supervisor postings within 50 km, dated June, July and August 2026 (Job Bank). None are in Hamilton itself. Postings that old and still listed point to slow fills.
  • Bimbo Canada has had two Hamilton Production Supervisor postings listed for 1 and 2 months (Indeed). Maple Leaf Foods has 152 total job posts on the regional tracker, the most of any local food employer (Workforce Planning Hamilton).
  • The new Sucro Can refinery at the Port of Hamilton opened in May 2026 and had about 65 skilled workers at opening, with more to come (CHCH). It is a new competitor for process-minded supervisors.
  • Hamilton's unemployment rate is 7.4% for the October 2026 to January 2027 period (Immigration News Canada). That helps with line labour. It does not help much with an experienced HACCP supervisor, who is rarely unemployed.

Our own board today has 52 live Manufacturing postings across Canada and the US, with 0 in Hamilton. Production Supervisor is one of our most common titles, at 3. That tells you we have no competing Hamilton search running. It says nothing about local demand, so don't read it as a market signal.

For you, a 30-day timeline is tight. Expect to compete with two or three plants for the same 5 to 10 qualified people.

What they are paid

Job Bank's wage data for food and beverage processing supervisors in the Hamilton-Niagara region shows a low of $22.00, a median of $30.29 and a high of $45.67 per hour (Job Bank). The median is roughly $63,000 a year (my calculation, 2,080 hours). All figures here are CAD.

Posted base pay for local food plants runs higher:

Employer Posted base Source
Maple Leaf Foods, Hamilton $62,000-$91,000 Indeed
Grupo Bimbo, Hamilton $59,625-$88,000 Indeed
Olivieri Foods, Hamilton $75,000-$85,000 Indeed
Karma Candy, Hamilton (day shift) $50,000 Indeed

Salary sites vary. Glassdoor puts base pay at CA$54K-CA$76K (Glassdoor). Indeed's average is $80,419, from only 32 salaries (Indeed). By level, Indeed shows a junior average of $55,487 and a senior average of $80,463.

I found no public figure for a second-shift supervisor premium. One data point is hourly: Bimbo pays a $1 night shift premium to production workers (Indeed).

You gave no budget. My read for a second-shift supervisor with HACCP experience and 40 direct reports is $70,000-$82,000 base. Below $65,000 you will mostly see lead hands and title-holders. Above $85,000 you are paying for a day-shift manager.

Money rarely moves a good supervisor on its own. What does:

  • A fixed second shift with no rotation.
  • A real path to day shift or to production manager.
  • A plant that backs them on discipline and attendance.
  • A shorter commute.

The remaining sections (Where the people are, The screen, The offer, The search plan, What to do this week) arrive with your own brief.

Free, specific, fast, and then what.

Is it really free?

Yes. No invoice, no obligation. We write it because it is the fastest way to show you how we would run your search.

How specific is it?

It is written for the title and the city you give us, by a recruiter who works that market, with the research behind it. Two requests for two different roles get two different briefs.

How fast?

Within one business day. If the role is urgent, say so in the form and we call first.

What happens after?

The recruiter who wrote it calls to walk you through it and answer questions. If you want us to run the search, that is the next conversation. If not, keep the brief.
