Your AI stance is now part of how candidates judge you

What happened

Candidates are paying attention to how organizations use AI, as reported by HRD Canada. The report describes an organization's "AI taste" as something that is now under talent scrutiny. In other words, the way a company chooses to bring AI into its work can shape whether people want to join it.

The headline question is whether an AI strategy can turn off talent. The report points to the answer being yes, at least for some candidates and in some circumstances.

The report does not say here which roles or industries are most affected, how many candidates hold these views, or what kinds of AI use put people off. Those details are not yet clear from what has been published, so employers should treat this as a signal to watch, not a hard rule.

Why it matters if you are hiring

Your AI approach is no longer only an internal matter. Candidates can form a view of it from your job postings, your interview process and what current employees say. If that view is poor, strong people may not apply or may drop out late.

That matters most where talent is scarce. Think of analysts, engineers, data people, finance staff and experienced operations leads. These people have options, and many will ask how AI is used in the role, who decides, and what it means for their work.

There are two practical risks. The first is vagueness. If a hiring manager cannot explain how AI fits the job, candidates may assume the worst. The second is a mismatch. A company that talks up automation while hiring for roles that depend on judgment sends a mixed message.

In Canada, where many employers compete for the same skilled people, a clear and honest position on AI can be a small but real advantage in a hiring process.

One thing to do this week

Write a one-page plain statement of how your organization uses AI today and how it affects the 3 roles you are hiring for most often. Give it to every hiring manager and have them practise answering a candidate who asks about it directly. Fix any gap between what you say and what is true before the next interview.

Traverse helps employers across Canada and the US reach experienced operations, finance, data and technical people, and we can help you describe the role and its tools accurately so the right candidates stay interested.
